Last week we reported on an unconfirmed story that originated on the website of import retailer Lik-Sang. The rumor was that a redesign for the Nintendo DS would be announced on Monday (Jan. 16).

Well, Jan. 16 has come and gone in Japan and there's been no announcement to speak of. In addition, GameDaily BIZ was told by a Nintendo of America representative, "Nintendo DS continues to be one of the most popular and talked-about video game systems available. Through 2005, some 13 million units have sold worldwide. Nintendo is always looking for ways to improve its games and systems, but we have nothing to announce at this time."

So, although a redesign has not been announced yet, the chances of it happening at some point in the near future would seem to be fairly high. For now, though, as Nintendo points out, there's no need to mess with a good thing.
