X-Men: The Official Game for the Nintendo DS let's you become Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Magneto and IceMan in a sequence of events that is the lead in for the recent X-Men movie. While I do love the whole X-Men franchise, I have to say that I was disappointed in Activision's attempt at an X-Men game, though for hardcore fans, there may be some good stuff in here for you.
You begin the game as Wolverine, who is in hunt for Lady Deathstrike after hearing that she is still alive. The first level of the game is purely exploratory of a very simple forest like setting. Looking for clues for Deathstrike, you fight a few easy enemies. The graphics in this game are disappointing to say the least. With something as cool as X-Men and as sweet as a DS Lite, I was hoping for something a little more involved, and a lot more fun. Also, if you die in a level, the entire story must replay instead of you just continuing on kicking butt. Which can really get annoying after a few times. You do eventually find Deathstrike, and while it took me a couple of times to figure out her moves, it was easy to slice the heck out of her once I figured out her pattern.
The game moves on and you get to become Nightcrawler and stop time while looking for Wolverine. You also get to switch between Magneto and Iceman, depending on the enemy you are fighting, as you search for Wolverine as well. The enemies do get out of control sometimes and it does get a bit addictive, probably just for the pure fact that you want to beat the level though. It didn't last long though and after completing about 10% of the game, I was ready to write my review. While some will simply love this game because it is X-Men, if you're looking for a game that's fast moving and innovative, this is not the game for you.
