French media conglomerate Vivendi today reported its full-year revenues for 2007, and naturally that means we also got a clearer picture of just how well Vivendi Games did last year. As it turns out, they did very, very well indeed. For the first time ever, Vivendi Games surpassed one billion euros in revenues. The company's 2007 revenues totaled 1.018 billion euros (about $1.51 billion), which represents a jump of 26.6 percent over the prior year.
Vivendi's Blizzard Entertainment and its hugely successful World of Warcraft MMO once again was a major force in driving results. Blizzard's revenues were 814 million euros, 58 percent higher than they were in 2006. As was announced back on January 22, WoW has now surpassed 10 million subscribers worldwide, and with the next expansion Wrath of the Lich King expected to hit the market later this year, WoW doesn't appear to be slowing down anytime soon.
While Blizzard has seen great growth, Vivendi said that its Sierra Entertainment, Sierra Online and Vivendi Games Mobile businesses saw combined lower revenues of 204 million euros, representing a 29 percent decline. The company said that "each of the business segments were impacted by unfavorable currency exchange movements." That said, the Sierra Online and Vivendi Games Mobile divisions specifically did show some growth. 2007 PC and console releases, such as Crash of the Titans, Spyro: The Eternal Night, F.E.A.R. expansion and compilations, Timeshift and World in Conflict drove sales but "were not as strong as the 2006 release slate, which included Scarface, Ice Age 2, Eragon, Spyro: A New Beginning and F.E.A.R."
As a whole, Vivendi's revenues grew eight percent for the year to 21.657 billion euros ($32.18 billion).
