Even though Blizzard started creating StarCraft II back in 2003, Blizzard's vice president of game design, Rob Pardo, confirmed to Eurogamer that early development of the game was disrupted by design team members being called away to work on World of Warcraft.

Chris Sigaty, lead producer on StarCraft II, also said that he too was pulled into the WoW project, and talked about the insider's view of how the game was created -- multiplayer first and single player second. Of course, most interestingly, Pardo says that the team had a playable version of the game around late 2005 or early 2006, a shocking but not surprising revelation for a team that takes great pride in perfecting its games.

While one project was delayed, there's no debating the successes of WoW so it appears, at least from a business view, that the decision was a good one.
