Given Blizzard's movie-quality videos, a staple of many of the games the well-loved company has created, rumors that one of its properties would head to the silver screen have been rumored for so long -- it's become a running joke. Until today. Blizzard and Legendary Pictures announced that they're working with director, Sam Raimi, on creating a motion picture based on the Warcraft universe.
Raimi, best known as the director on the Spider-Man movie trilogy, cult classic The Evil Dead as well as wrote and directed, Drag Me To Hell, has a legendary status amongst sci-fi and fantasy fans.
"At its core, Warcraft is a fantastic, action-packed story," said Raimi. "I am thrilled to work with such a dynamite production team to bring this project to the big screen."
Producer Charles Roven has also signed on to work on the live-action movie. Roven's works include The Dark Night, Batman Begins and 12 Monkeys.
Few details about the actual movie, it's release date, or cast were given in the official press release. Yet, given the game series' fabled following, which has grown with the runaway success of World of Warcraft, debates about such details are going to dominate the thoughts of any Warcraft player.
