Nintendo stuck to its classic and long-winded information format where it boasted high numbers, market superiority and just as we were falling asleep, some major announcements.

New Super Mario Bros. for Wii

Rather than just add new levels to the former New Super Mario Bros. that became essential to any DS owner's collection, New super Mario Bros. for Wii goes widescreen with a single player experience that can also be played by up to four players cooperatively. With classic 2D perspective and characters that look more 3D, the game which allows players to join at any time (and one might speculate if there will be levels that will require help from a friend). In four player mode, each player works to get all the way to the level's end, a flagpole. First character to the pole gets the biggest bonus. New items include a new Propeller Suit -- activated by moving the Wii Remote from side to side -- gets players up to high lofts or around obstacles. Playable this week at E3, the complete game arrives during Holiday 2009.

Wii Sports Resort
Fans of the Wii Sports game series, which appears to be everyone, will finally get a new series of activities to participate in when Wii Sports Resort arrives on July 26, 2009. While disc throwing and watercraft racing games were shown previously, Nintendo showed off several new activities including your first plunge... a ski diving game were you controlled the speed of your drop, rotating in the air during your free fall and even the ability to make formations with other skydivers. While the parachutes and landing appear to be automatic, it looked like a great way to introduce players to the included Wii MotionPlus module. Once on the island, we headed to an archery game where the Wii Remote becomes the bow and the nunchuk is used as the line. Simply pull the nunchuck back, watch as the field of vision focuses on where you might shoot and press the Z button to let the arrow fly towards the target. Finally, there's a three-point shot basketball game that you can play competitively versus a friend. With five stations with five balls at each station, each player drops the Wii Remote down to pick up a ball, then uses the Wii Remote in hand to aim and shoot the ball.

Super Mario Galaxy 2

The last great Mario game in 3D, Super Mario Galaxy took the chubby plumber to new hights on the Wii. In 2010, Super Mario Galaxy 2 builds on that reputation by creating a bigger game with bigger planets, levels that include underwater adventures and even a few underground levels, accessible with a new drilling item that lets you tunnel into planets. We also saw the drill used to compete against a boss that had grown on a planet that looked like a lateral slide of a log. Snow levels, ghosts and even ships that seem to be coming through black holes didn't prepare fans for the biggest surprise... Yoshi.

Metroid: Other M

Nintendo hasn't been deaf to the complaints of gamers and it sought the help of Team Ninja to help add edgier and more mature content to its Wii platform. The trailer begins with several spacecraft getting hit by meteors or ammo, which leads to a scene with a blonde woman, who has an edgier anime look. Flashes of cityscapes lead to the woman walking up to a soldier or government person who keeps it simple and says, "Any objections lady?" Then the blonde woman bursts into light, as digital lines fill in over her tight blue bodysuit. A flash of Seamus' famous helmet would get any fan of the franchise pumped. The in-game footage shows Metroid sci-fi babe tossing, pounding and freezing creatures. Close combat blaster shots into the heads of creatures look fierce but didn't show any blood. Regardless, scenes of massive, yet fast, creatures with sharp teeth and dark scenery will stick in the minds of Wii players until Metroid: Other M arrives in 2010
