Shigeru Miyamoto recently spoke at a demo event San Francisco. The creator of Mario and Legend of Zelda was practically bursting with pride over his latest creation, Wii Music. "Usually after spending a long time working on a game, I'm not really in a rush to run back home and play it again," said Miyamoto, according to 1UP. "But for the first time, Wii Music is drawing me in like that."
"I'll be sitting there thinking about how I could totally redo the bass and it would sound so much better," he said. "My personal definition for what makes a game fun is whether or not when you're not playing the game, you're thinking about playing the game. That to me tells me it's a very fun game. I'll be listening to the radio and all of a sudden, I'll be able to hear individual instruments and recognize them for the sounds they make in ways I was never able to before."
When asked about the lack of classic Nintendo songs in the game, Miyamoto responded, "We wanted the music to appeal to a very broad audience, and if you look at the mass market, probably not nearly as many people would be as familiar with [NES/SNES] songs. We wanted to focus on songs that people will know by ear, because that in and of itself is going to make it easier to play and then improvise the songs."
"Maybe we can do one version that's just all Nintendo songs," he added, laughing.
