It wasn't that long ago that we were first introduced to Nintendo's quirky new WarioWare series, a brand that reintroduced the mini-game as we know it. See, the point of these games is basically challenging Wario and his quirky friends to a number of these mini-games, completing them within the time limit while avoiding the risk of failure. If you fail, you lose one of your four precious life points, and the game ends after you lose them all. Sure, the mini-games sound easy at first, but the difficulty quickly ramped up and provided a challenge for all ages, even the most ambitious of older gamers.
Now, after enjoying some entries in the series on the Game Boy Advance, the Nintendo DS, and the GameCube, WarioWare returns to the GBA for Twisted!, but this is not your typical game in the series. In fact, it's the most innovative and fun entry yet, thanks to the addition of some new technology that puts a twist on how you play the game.
The game uses a gyroscopic sensor built right into the cartridge, requiring you to do more than just hit the buttons to survive. Now, you must actually tilt your Game Boy Advance in different directions to survive the mini-games, following the on-screen prompts and controlling the action in real time by moving back and forth. The gyroscopic technology works wonderfully here, whether you're keeping balance on a car or swinging Mario and Luigi around on platforms as Bullet Bills pass all around them. The concept remains mostly the same but the new mini-games are oodles of fun.
While the game may look and sound as simple as other GBA efforts, this is far from your typical game for the system. WarioWare: Twisted! provides a great deal of enjoyment, no matter what your skill level, and its silliness just adds to the entertainment value. The inclusion of this technology without a bolstering on the game price is a welcome addition as well, and will keep the kids swinging around the house as they complete challenge after challenge. The idea may be twisted, but the execution is purely logical fun.
