Valkyria Chronicles boasts a superbly designed anime-style world set in an alternate pre-WWII era. This strategy game is unlike anything else out there, especially for the PS3, due to its comical yet charming aesthetic and it's unique take on the genre. While it is a military tactics game, it dares to branch out into action and role-playing territories. Yet, it's so unprecedented that this may be it's greatest downfall; in a sea of familiarity, will gamers be willing to take a risk on an unknown property? Here's what we know: it looks great, it sounds great and it plays great, and it won't feel like something you've played before. Try it.

Dear Chris Buffa, I have been playing videogames for over 20 years seeing the industry grow up to what it is today has been great. And now that we have reached the 5th generation of the modern consoles era, I have to say that I am sadden but what is transpiring in this generation of consoles. FANBOYS!!!!! Not just nerdy teenage boys with nothing better to do, but grown men and also the industry itself. There are several websites out there that seem to have an agenda to discredit certain parts of the industry because "It's the cool thing to do". I have read a few reviews written by yourself and members of other websites such as Kotaku, 1up, EGM, that will discredit a game for the sole fact that it’s a PS3 exclusive. That is a sad state that you and many of you colleagues have taken over the past 3 years for reasons unknown. Take this review as an example, first off its only one paragraph long. WTF! Where are the in-depth comments about the art-style, play-style, features, control schemes, online and other nuances that have become the industry norm, especially for a unique game such as the one this review is for. If that wasn't bad enough, it seems that it's unique style is also a detriment "…Yet, it's so unprecedented that this may be it's greatest downfall; in a sea of familiarity, will gamers be willing to take a risk on an unknown property?..." isn't that the idea the whole industry is based on? To try something new, to break from the norm. Yet that seems to be this games biggest downfall? Granted you ended the article with "Here's what we know: it looks great, it sounds great and it plays great, and it won't feel like something you've played before. Try it." Which is great and all but all that you mention in the end are never mentioned in the review itself so what so great about it? Also with the track record you seem to want to maintain with your reviews, had this game been a X360 exclusive or even a multi-platform game this review would've been longer and much more detailed with a higher score. A great game is a great game no matter who makes it and what platform its on, but apparently that is no longer the case with many pundits of the industry, if the game doesn't ride the train of familiarity it is scorned for being to "original". If you and your fellow colleagues would like to see the stagnation of this great industry then keep doing what you guys are doing because that is the way it is heading. Congratulation on starting and maintain a state of ignorance in which games are rated solely on not how great they are but rather which platform it can and can't be played on.
