People look better in pieces.

That's not to say the game lacks depth. We envision plenty of people coordinating attacks in Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag requires some camaraderie, lest the whole campaign devolve into a massacre, but this isn't a thinking (more like camping) person's shooter. Stop running for a second and you get splattered across a wall, which is why we love it. A few cans of Red Bull and this game goes a long way to easing one's frustrations.
To that end, UT III is like a stereotypical action flick. You can customize your character, outfitting him or her with armor and helmets, but you don't need to know who they are, why they compete in this tournament or even what's going on. Just run around and slaughter people with a myriad of weapons, all of which do an excellent job detaching limbs from torsos. The Bio Rifle, an Unreal Tournament staple, fires a toxic green ooze that sticks to opponents as well as floors, where it damages anyone that runs across it. Hit someone with it enough times and they disintegrate before your eyes, which is a sweet effect.
Other weapons make a welcome return, including the effective Flak Cannon, the Rocket Launcher and the Shock Rifle. Each features a primary and alternate fire, though you don't need to use the latter to rack up kills. At the same time, we enjoyed experimenting with them, and found a few to be quite useful. With the Rocket Launcher, for example, you fire a homing rocket at your opponent, so long as you have him or her lined up in your sights.
