The GameDaily One-Minute Review

Brain-munching zombies, giant slime-slinging trolls, and other assorted horrors are all the rage in Capcom's Ultimate Ghosts 'N Goblins, the follow up to the publisher's legendary 2D series. Once again, the noble knight Arthur must embark upon a dangerous quest to rescue his fair maiden, the lovely Princess Prin Prin, but standing in his way are a wonderful mix of horrors that'll use any means necessary to stop the hero in his tracks, and by any means, I mean everything but a copy of Superman 64. This game is about as hard as petrified wood. Capcom eased things up a bit by tossing three difficulty levels into the mix, but even the added confidence booster couldn't save me from dying hundreds of times. However, although I got my butt thoroughly handed to me I continued to come back for more, partly because beating any Ghosts 'N Goblins game is like earning a badge of honor, but I was also attracted to the game's sugar-coated presentation. The music and the visuals are just outstanding and really capture the essence of the series. But even though the game looks great and plays all right (jumping can be a real pain in the ass), it still feels like the same exact game that I've been playing for over a decade. Unfortunately, that kept it from being a must buy.
