Richard "Lord British" Garriott recently announced on the official Tabula Rasa website that the release of the title was being pushed back. While there were some major personnel changes in the NCsoft Austin office during July, that was not cited as the reason for the delay. As expected, the cited reasons were quality control and "doing the game right".
"I want people who play Tabula Rasa to have a unique and fun experience and I don't want to ship it until it fully meets the lofty expectations that the Destination Games team and I have for it," said Garriott in the news post. "Even more importantly, I won't launch this product until we believe it meets your expectations for a quality, ground-breaking massively multiplayer product. Fortunately, NCsoft is a publisher that is as devoted to excellence as we are. The company fully supports this decision and is encouraging us every step of the way."
Tabula Rasa is the first game for Destination Games, founded by Ultima series creator Richard Garriott and Starr Long, Ultima Online creator. The game will combine both sci-fi and "Eastern" elements. Given the wording of Garriott's post, the game probably will not ship until Spring of next year.
