Just a year after the controversy surrounding GameSpot's review of Kane & Lynch, Eidos is in hot water again over its attempts to "manage" game reviews.
UK GameSpot writer Guy Cocker says via his Twitter profile that Eidos requested that he hold his review of Tomb Raider: Underworld until Monday, November 24 if it scored below 8/10. The game hit retail stores on November 18 in the U.S. and November 21 in the U.K.
Eidos' British PR firm Barrington Harvey reps say that they were simply trying to "manage the scores before the game is out." Check out the official statement.
Barrington Harvey has been working hard to ensure the launch scores of Tomb Raider Underworld are in line with our internal review predictions over the launch weekend - but to suggest that we can in some way "silence" reviews of the game is slightly overstating our influence.
Despite the intervention, Cocker scored the new Tomb Raider as a 7/10, and posted the review on Saturday.
