Earlier this week, Square Enix finalized its acquisition of Eidos. After this announcement, the company revealed the lifetimes sales for some of its largest titles. On the Square Enix side, Final Fantasy has sold over 85 million copies to date, while Dragon Quest has exceeded 47 million in sales (mostly in Japan) and Kingdom Hearts has managed 12 million units in a much shorter period of time. Both Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest have major entries scheduled to release this year, while two Kingdom Hearts side-stories are set to release on DS and PSP.
The top selling Eidos franchise is Tomb Raider, having sold over 30 million units. The second best selling franchise is Hitman having sold over 8 million units. Other top franchises for Eidos include Kane & Lynch: Dead Men with over 1.5 million sold, Deus Ex and Deus Ex: Invisible War with over 1 million sold apiece and Just Cause with another million in sales.
