But something has to be said about the world builder being included with this game. The good folks at Iron Lore sat down with me and showed me the ease of using the world builder, making an impressive map with flowing water, blowing grass, and small details here and there in a matter of minutes, and then interconnecting this outdoor area to an indoor cave dwelling within just another few minutes. There's many details that are at the user's disposal with this builder, and Williams and Iron Lore were both confident that this would lead to the creation of hundreds of custom maps to be shared amongst users well throughout 2006 and even 2007.
As far as the game's graphics go, there is just one stationary viewpoint in terms of camera usage, but you can zoom in and out to get a finer look at Titan Quest's crisp details. The animation looks to be sharp, as do the lighting effects and level design. And some of these creatures look downright horrid, as they're supposed to be. Their animation is something to reckon with as well. Not too much sound came into play with the presentation, but it's Iron Lore, so you should probably expect an epic score and quality sound effects in the final product once it surfaces in early 2006.
Along with the world builder, the game also offers cooperative gameplay between the likes of six to eight players, so fellow fighters can team up on an epic quest and do battle with hundreds of enemies at a time. There's not really anything versus-based here, but at least it's something likable
There's also different play elements that come into play throughout that boost up the replay value, including the use of "pets", such as the core dweller. These guys come in handy in coming along and pounding enemies as you try and push ahead. Weapons, item use, and different placements of enemies help out as well.
Titan Quest looks rather interesting, and seems to be something I'd actually sit down at a PC unit to play. Hell, it might even be enough to distract me from my journalistic work. (Heh, that's not entirely a good thing- I hear John grumbling now.) Look for the game to arrive in early 2006, making an impact with each growing step towards its retail arrival. This one'll be quite memorable.
