I seldom find myself getting involved in PC offerings these days. Sure, the likes of F.E.A.R. has caught my eye in the local PC game room in the shopping center, and something has to be said about jumping in for a quick game of Quake III Arena. But otherwise, I'm a stranger in a strange land when it comes to the likes of World of Warcraft or Counterstrike. Not to worry, though. There are developers out there that seem to be branching off efforts that appeal to both the hardcore PC players (you know who you are, Eli) and casual players. One of these efforts is Titan Quest, an adventure game that looks to put the word "adventure" back on the PC map.
The team at Iron Lore, working with the great Brian Sullivan of Age of Empires fame, have put together a hack n' slash adventure that packs over 30 hours of gameplay, as well as a number of weapons, spells, and co-helpers that help prolong the adventure each time you play. You basically find yourself on a quest through a series of ancient Greek-like areas searching out the Titans, a group of rogue gods who seek to create havoc throughout the world. This means littering the place with all kinds of unspeakables, like giant spiders and hurling demons who can't wait to rip innocent folks apart.
Your character can be modified in a number of ways throughout your quest, whether choosing the weapon that best suits them or picking up on spells that can have a number of effects. One in particular left some bothersome enemies frozen as you chipped away at their precious energy, while another grew you to enormous stature to take on creatures around three times your size. It's this combination of the two, along with the quick, action-packed gameplay, that should make this quite a quest to endure through its numerous missions.
