Square Enix today released the results for the fiscal period ending June 30. The Japanese publisher reported that sales had fallen nearly 10 percent year-on-year to 29.77 billion yen ($275.9 million). Despite the decrease in sales, profits were up to 2.883 billion yen ($26.7 million) in Q1 2008 compared to 2.739 billion yen ($25.3 million) in Q1 2007.
The offline gaming division saw the biggest hit at Square Enix, seeing its sales drop from 9.416 billion yen ($87.2 million) last year to 5.082 billion yen ($47.1 million) this year. Sales in the Japan region, far and away the most important for the company, fell over 4 billion yen to 25.925 billion yen ($239.2 million). North America sales actually saw a slight upturn to 2.639 billion yen ($24.3 million) compared with 2.571 billion yen ($23.8 million) during the same time last year.
