Following the recent closure of Brash Entertainment, the status of Brash's upcoming releases became unclear. Today, however, Variety has reported that Atari has made a last minute deal to publish The Tale of Despereaux, a tie-in to the upcoming computer animated movie from Universal, which hits theaters on December 19.
In fact, reporter Ben Fritz said the deal happened at such a late stage that the box art will in fact still say Brash. The last minute nature of the deal also won't give Atari adequate time to market the title, but the company is relying on Universal's own promotions and buzz for the film to drive interest.
Atari is beginning to step up its distribution business in a big way, as the company continues to reinvent itself. Just yesterday in London, Atari held a showcase event to lay out its lineup for the coming year.
