Bart, Lisa, Homer, Marge and Maggie are now available for play now that The Simpsons Game has released to retailers in North America (Europeans receive the game on November 2).
Rather than a mere retelling of a few episodes of the long-running Emmy-winning TV series, The Simpsons Game features a completely new script from the show's writers and their respective actors voice all the characters. "The Simpson family realizes they're living in an actual video game," said Matt Selman, Simpsons Executive Producer and Head Writer of the Simpsons title. "At first, it's fun having video game powers. But when life as a game character is harder then they thought, they must break out into the behind-the-scene world of video games. They must fight their way through parodies of other games in order to achieve their freedom."
Steeped in the show's award winning humor, the game takes a few swipes at the video game industry, pop culture icons, and current events as the family uses each of their unique abilities to save Springfield. Homer uses his Homerball ability to smash through obstacles, Bart realigns with his inner zipline ability as Bartman, Marge rallies mobs or get a taste of the spiritual with Lisa's Hand of Buddha.
Fans of the series gain 40 minutes of new scenes from the series and over 8000 lines of in-game dialog. Developed at EA's Redwood Shores Studio, the game is available for PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2, PSP, Xbox 360, Wii and Nintendo DS.
