Warner Bros' take on its newly acquired The Lord of the Rings license is a Wii game for the whole family titled The Lord of the Rings: Aragorn's Quest, that arrives this fall. That's right, instead of mimicking the dark tone of Peter Jackson's films, developer Headstrong Games created an adventure with kids in mind. That doesn't mean, however, that it's short on action.

Aragorn's Quest takes place after J.R.R. Tolkien's epic War of the Ring, where a small band of heroes destroyed the Dark Lord Sauron. In it, the peaceful hobbits prepare a celebration to mark the arrival or Aragorn, King of Gondor. And so begins the game as Samwise Gamgee (Frodo's buddy), now mayor of Hobbiton, tells everyone of Aragon's bravery during those trying times.

Each of these stories marks one of the game's levels, as players take control of Aragorn and relives battles from the celebrated fiction. They'll not only lead armies, but also fight familiar bad guys from The Lord of the Rings, including spiders, orcs and Ringwraiths.

To do this, gamers will use the Wii remote to slash monsters and the nunchuk's analog stick to move around. In addition to sword attacks, they'll knock enemies backwards with shield strikes, pierce them with arrows and even ride horseback, hopefully to trample their foes underfoot. For players that don't want to save Middle-earth alone, they can team up with a friend, thanks to the game's drop-in/drop-out offline co-op feature where the other person controls Gandalf.

Unfortunately, we've yet to play Aragorn's Quest, but from what we've seen, it appears to be a fun adventure game that everyone can get into. We just hope it's better than the last The Lord of the Rings offering from Electronic Arts, the average Conquest.
