The day after Thanksgiving, Black Friday, officially kicks off the holiday shopping season, and Nintendo has smartly positioned its already ubiquitous DS handheld to take advantage of the shopping madness. On November 23, two new DS bundles will officially go on sale, each of which pairs a special custom-color DS with a top selling DS game.
A special gold Triforce DS will come packaged with Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, while a "Metallic Rose" Nintendo DS will come bundled with the "Best Friends" version of Nintendogs.
"Nintendo DS remains the portable system of choice for gamers," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America's outgoing senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Our new bundles will be collector's items for current gamers while offering an attractive way for people new to video games to play with style."
Nintendo's handheld has been on a torrid sales pace ever since it launched three years ago on November 21, 2004. The DS has sold almost 4.5 million units in the U.S. alone this year and more than 13.6 million in the U.S. since its debut.
The portable also boasts 14 different titles that have sold over one million units in North America, including Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day, Pokemon Diamond Version, Pokemon Pearl Version, Yoshi's Island DS, Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team, Big Brain Academy, New Super Mario Bros., Animal Crossing: Wild World, Mario Kart DS, Super Mario 64 DS and four versions of Nintendogs.
