Gamasutra is reporting that MadWorld sold 66,000 units during the month of March, according to data from the NPD. The gratuitously violent game is one of only 26 "M" rated games on the Wii out of several hundred. House of the Dead: Overkill, another "M" game game on the Wii published by Sega, sold only 45,000 units during its debut month of February in the U.S.
Sega of America's vice president of marketing Sean Ratcliffe, recently said that House of the Dead: Overkill "absolutely met our expectations" and that early data for MadWorld "is very encouraging." Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, another "M" rated title on a Nintendo system, sold fewer than 90,000 copies during March.

Isn't it possible that M games for the wii are not big sellers because most of the folks that would purchase Mature titles own other consoles where they play adult games? Regarding the rest of the wii market - let's face it, moms, grandpas, and 7 year old kids are not going to play these type of games (at least I hope not).
Sega's got it right. They've really put a lot of faith into Nintendo since dropping out of the console market. They know why their games "underperformed" and it's not the fault of the system. New hardware, like the DSi is cramping, temporarily, game sales. Sega knows sales will pick up soon. And they'll continue putting out mature titles on Nintendo systems.
