The GameDaily One-Minute Review

Bethesda's Morrowind is a great videogame, but its successor, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, does exactly what every sequel should do, which is taking its predecessor, beat the hell out of it, and leave it for dead. This absolutely marvelous videogame is not only the premier visual show piece for the Xbox 360 hardware, but it's also tremendously enjoyable to play. The high level of customization allows you to be whomever you wish, and the open-ended gameplay provides a thrilling sense of adventure that no other game can match. Being able to follow the engaging story line or carve my own path through the incredibly detailed world of Tamriel is immensely satisfying, and the myriad of different things to see and do truly puts this game in a class all by itself. That's not to say that it's perfect, and if you despise Morrowind, Oblivion may not convert you to Bethesda's style of action RPGs, but this is by far the best videogame for the Xbox 360, as well as a front runner for the 2006 game of the year. Purchase it without hesitation.
