The GameDaily One-Minute Review

Halloween comes early in 2K Games' first person shooter, The Darkness. This macabre adventure thrusts gamers into a demonic world full of corrupt cops, monsters and hit men, all of which die in spectacular ways. As 21 year old Jackie Estacado, players explore a detailed New York City, harnessing the power of The Darkness (a malevolent force) to devour the hearts of his enemies and toss them into black holes. Furious gunplay complements this evil power, as gamers unload countless rounds upon their foes. In addition, they call on Darklings, impish creatures, to destroy lights (this drains Darkness energy) or jack hammer an enemy's face. A couple of flaws cheapen the single player experience and the shallow eight person multiplayer modes don't extend the replay value more than a few hours, but The Darkness does an excellent job at making players feel good about doing horrible things. To that we say, bravo.
