From Software announced today that they had acquired that worldwide trademark and copyright to the Tenchu series from Activision. Although Activision retains the rights for the games they have previously published (every game in the series up to and including Tenchu: Return From the Darkness), From holds the rights for Tenchu Kurenai and every game after that in the series. Despite this, Activision is likely to help From distribute Tenchu Kurenai in the United States, when and if that happens.
This is part of a greater plan by From to expand their presence internationally. From published Tenchu: The Wraith of Heaven and Tenchu: Return from the Darkness in Japan (titled Tenchu San and Tenchu San: Kaiki no Shou, respectively). From Software looks to branch the franchise out into other forms of media, such as anime or movies, in the future.
