A quick stop by the Namco booth allowed us to take footage of the full Tekken 6 trailer (only a small clip was shown at the Sony press conference), as well as get some hands-on time with Tekken: Dark Ressurection on the PlayStation Portable. This was just a quick test period since we'll be going behind closed doors for a full play test tomorrow, but for now we can say that Tekken: DR will not appease hardcore fans of the series.

The game looks amazing from a graphical standpoint, and Namco has added a new opening movie and new customization features, which we already detailed in our first preview of the title. The issue at hand is in the hardware, not the software. It's very difficult to execute advanced Tekken movement and techniques using the PSP d-pad. Even Tekken players who prefer the d-pad over an arcade stick will find the controls unforgiving at times.

However, all is not lost. After about six or seven matches we were able to get somewhat accustomed to the d-pad, but it was still near impossible to wave dash or perform anything that advanced players can pull off with ease on an arcade stick or Dual Shock 2. Still, if you're looking forward to Tekken: DR simply to pass the time on the bus or plane, or as a warm up while you're waiting to play in an arcade tournament, Tekken: DR does offer a solid Tekken experience aside from the somewhat lackluster controls.

We also played a bit of Ad-Hoc multiplayer, and there was no noticeable latency at all. The match ran smooth as silk. So while online multiplayer won't be featured in Tekken: DR, it's good to know that local wireless multiplayer will run flawlessly.
