Tough-as-nails Gabe Logan returns in Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow, a follow-up to one of the best action games for the PlayStation Portable -- Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror.

This time around, identifying the enemy won't be as easy. Logan gets called in to hunt down a terrorist group that hijacks some valuable, and potentially dangerous, technology. His long-time partner Lian Xing goes missing during the caper and Logan suspects that she might be working as a double agent.

The action then spans the globe, taking Gabe to the Middle East and deep below the Indian Ocean, where players can expect to battle enemies underwater (and inside shipwrecks) using new weapons, such as a spear gun and bolt pistol.

On land, the action will include a combo of stealth and no-holds-barred shootouts accented with grenade launchers, smoke grenades, sticky mines and flash bangs. Players will also be able to shoot around corners, using "blind fire" to force enemies to take cover -- or use enemies as human shields against incoming fire.

The game borrows from the God of War series and includes timed button-mashing sequences, which, while not exactly original, at least keeps breaks up the standard third-person shooting and sneaking.

We didn't get too much hands on time with the game at the recent Sony Gamer's Day in San Diego, but from what we've seen so far, Logan's Shadow looks like another high point in the sometimes inconsistent Syphon Filter series.
