Star Wars: The Force Unleashed official launch party invite. Were you there?

George Lucas made a special appearance the official Star Wars: The Force Unleashed Launch Party at a Best Buy in San Francisco last night.

The bearded wonder grabbed the mic before midnight and thanked the game's development team and joked about his son putting 432 bugs in the game.

"The testers only found 327," Lucas jokes. Before walking off stage he says, "I think you'll find this game extremely exciting, and I hope you enjoy it."

Gee, thanks, George.

Sam Witwer, the actor (Smallville, Battlestar Galactica) who plays The Apprentice in the game, also let his geek flag fly at the event and says that he was "all into the X-Wing games" back in the day and has gone so far as to read a few of the Star Wars books.

Witwer also says it was better recording his lines for cutscenes since it was more like filming a movie or TV show -- with other actors in the room. His in-game dialogue, which he recorded solo in a studio, were more difficult since he was saying lines with no context whatsoever. "The key is the other actors," he says.

Darth Vader, Stormtroopers, R2-D2 and other celebs from the Star Wars universe also attended the big event. The game, available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, PSP and Nintendo DS, officially hit stores today.

Despite mixed reviews (the game currently holds an average score of 70 on Metacritic), The Force Unleashed currently ranks in the Top 10 games on Amazon.com. Looks like less-than-perfect reviews can't keep Star Wars fans down.
