Despite bad memories regarding George Lucas' infamous Star Wars prequels (Jar Jar), The Clone Wars animated series gave us plenty of new reasons to believe in a galaxy far, far away. Now the enjoyable cartoon comes to Xbox 360, PS3 and Wii with LucasArts' Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, blasting its way to stores October 6th. While not the deepest looking of adventures, this third person romp is chock full of droids, Jedi and plenty of familiar faces.
Taking place between seasons one and two, Republic Heroes lets you blow up and slash enemies as eight popular Jedi, including Obi-Wan Kenobi, Anakin Skywalker, Mace Windu, Kit Fisto, Plo Koon and Ahsoka Tano. In addition, you'll also control 10 clone troopers, like Commander Cody and Captain Rex, to combine forces and hunt down bounty hunter Cad Bane, defeat the evil separatists and a new foe, the diabolical villain Kul Teska.
As expected, Jedi use lightsabers and their signature Force powers to kill enemies and solve puzzles, while clone troopers will rely on squad based tactics and old-fashioned blasters, as well as thermal detonators and rocket launchers. Mixing these styles of play should keep missions from growing stale.
Another way to prevent boredom is to fight alongside a buddy. Republic Heroes, like so many other games these days, comes with a two-person drop in/drop out co-op mode, but it remains to be seen whether that includes online play.
If we had to guess, Star Wars The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes will be an action packed romp full of familiar faces and places from the television series. We're not sure if the developers will bring anything new to the table, but we'll always make room for some blaster firing, lightsaber swinging gameplay.
