Legacy's graphics also fail to impress. While some of the ship models look good, the game doesn't appear to take advantage of the Xbox 360 hardware. Space looks downright bland, and the ships and space stations look just as bad. Even doing a warp through space doesn't seem all that thrilling.
The sound, however, stands out as Legacy's main highlight. Many stars from the Star Trek shows lent their talents, including William Shatner, Patrick Stewart and Kate Mulgrew, filling their roles of Kirk, Picard and Janeway, respectively. Avery Brooks and Scott Bakula also contribute with their side characters from Deep Space Nine and Enterprise. The epic soundtrack shines, feeling like it was ripped from one of the movies or television series. Even the sound effects rock, including classic phaser and photon effects and explosion noises.
On top of the single player mode, players try their luck in Skirmish Mode. Here, gamers jump right into a number of vehicles, including Borg and Klingon ships, and blast into space battles without having to deal with tedious missions. Legacy also supports Xbox Live, allowing four players to engage in versus battles or working together on a co-op level, wiping out massive waves of enemies. Despite all this, though, it really comes down to how much of the tedious gameplay system players can stomach.
Star Trek Legacy winds up in the same pile of failures as other dreary Star Trek products. While this game sports some cool ideas, its tedious controls, lack of excitement and lackluster visuals make it about as much fun as cleaning up Tribble drool in the Captain's office.
