On Kotaku, Brian Crecente has posted a part of his Rocky Mountain News article on Spore, which goes into detail on the philosophy behind the game, but more interesting still is the fact that Will Wright's Spore was built on a number of new technological innovations, which could conceivably be applied to any number of genres and games within EA, and if EA so chooses, this technology could be licensed out to other interested developers as a sort of "engine."
EA Games label president Frank Gibeau said he envisions the tech behind Spore being used to create action titles, deep strategy or RPG titles and more. "What's so beautiful about Spore is that it's extremely malleable," he said. "You could add RPG or action, you could take it to different platforms, like (Web-page) flash games, the PlayStation 3, the Xbox 360, Nintendo's Wii. It really travels well to other platforms."
Beyond its potential impact on future game development, Spore itself is viewed by many as a landmark release. Certainly, creator Will Wright thinks so. "Spore will change the way people look at games forever and change hopefully the perception people have of their own creativity," he told the BBC recently.
He added, "We see the players make and share content and we see the player as a co-developer. People are still getting used to the fact that they are creators as well as consumers and we see this in how people pick their own TV shows or their own music."
Spore gives you a variety of powerful yet easy-to-use creation tools so you can create every aspect of your universe: creatures, vehicles, buildings, and even starships. While Spore is a single-player game, your creations and other players' creations are automatically shared between your galaxy and theirs, providing a limitless number of worlds to explore and play.
