The Sims, SimCity and Spore creator, Will Wright

Will Wright, the brainy game maker responsible for video game mega-hit The Sims and more recently, Spore, made an appearance in The New York Times magazine over the weekend. Instead of a long-winded interview or a flowery narrative on his day-to-day life (like Gears of War 2 designer Cliff Bleszinski's recent piece in The New Yorker), it's a simple list of his likes, dislikes, habits and hobbies.

Our favorite facts: Will Wright is not just a smoker – he's a 'Marlboro Man.' "I smoke Marlboro Lights. You get used to a certain kind of cigarette and it's hard to say why, but when you smoke a different cigarette, it tastes wrong."

He also talks about common misconceptions about game makers – "That they are under-read. People associate games with explosions and guns, but the designers I know are well read and have diverse interests."

Wright's morning routine consists of drinking coffee and playing iPhone or Nintendo DS games and in his spare time, he likes to collect Soviet space program memorabilia – "I get them on the gray market from a lot of different guys that have to be named Alexei."
