Today, the list of 2004 Walk of Game inductees was announced. The two "Lifetime Achievers" were Shigeru Miyamoto (creator of Mario Brothers and Donkey Kong) and Nolan Bushnell (creator of Pong and founder of Atari). The four winners in the "Favorite Game/Character" category were Link, Mario, Sonic The Hedgehog, and Halo.
The voting was held over the full stretch of October. More than 200,000 votes were cast on WalkOfGame.com, where the final results can be found. The results were then tallied by Blast Promotions, specialists in online contest validation, and the top two Lifetime Achievers and four Games/Characters were chosen.
The Walk of Game will be first physical landmark honoring icons of the videogame industry. Winners will each be honored with a custom 24"x24", brushed-steel star installed on the floors of Metreon, a 350,000 square foot entertainment complex located in downtown San Francisco. The award ceremony is currently set for early 2005.
Metreon plans on making the Walk of Game an annual event. A new set of nominees will be announced in September 2005.
