This fall, Sony's SOCOM franchise arrives on the PlayStation 3 in SOCOM Confrontation, available on Blu-Ray disc and for download through the PlayStation Network. Much like its predecessors, the game allows players to team up and engage enemies around the world, forming clans and competing in tournaments to see who has the fastest trigger fingers and the best aim. This game, however, brings numerous improvements to the series, ones that'll attract thousands of virtual service men and women.
Previous SOCOM games feature single player missions designed to train people for online warfare. Confrontation, on the other hand, is a multiplayer only affair, allowing up to 32 players the opportunity to blast their opponents across a wide variety of maps. These environments were designed for close quarters combat, with claustrophobic areas guaranteed to produce the most intense firefights in the series. Sony hasn't officially announced all of these locations, though a brief video showed gamers fighting through a Middle Eastern city, and the company plans to offer five North African themed maps.
Furthermore, gamers have the luxury of customizing their character, choosing from a variety of weapons, gear and other items to personalize their avatar. They can even design clan uniforms.
