Earlier today it was confirmed that Electronic Arts has cut positions at its Tiburon studio, and now it would appear that EA's Vancouver-based Black Box has really been hit hard by the company's cost reduction plan. Both Kotaku and Gamasutra have cited sources close to the situation that have indicated as many as 200 employees were let go. Black Box did employ around 350 people.
Black Box is known for having developed EA's popular Need for Speed racing games since 2002. The studio also created the Skate franchise for EA, which has fared well against Activision's Tony Hawk. Skate 2 just shipped this week for Xbox 360 and PS3.
According to Kotaku, EA won't speak about any planned cuts until the company's next earnings call on February 3. EA reportedly held a company-wide meeting today at EA Canada to discuss the state of the industry and the company's future.
