Keep in mind that a decade ago, this $19.99 package would have cost more than $1,500.

The Sega Genesis honors one of the greatest videogame consoles of all time with the new Sega Genesis Collection, a classic compilation that includes over thirty of the publisher's best games. It is without question the company's greatest retro package, even if the presentation leaves something to be desired.
The good news is that Sega Genesis Collection includes a number of hits in the 28 game collection; like Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the first three Golden Axe games, Altered Beast ("Rwise from yo gwave!"), Comix Zone, Kid Chameleon, Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master, and Phantasy Star II, III, and IV, among other games, all of which are perfectly emulated and packaged with their respective instructions. There are also achievements that, when completed, will unlock additional games and a host of content that includes cheats, interviews, and some game trailers. There's just an incredible amount of content here, and the fact that it retails for a paltry $19.99 makes it irresistible.
Unfortunately, the game's woeful presentation kicks it down a couple of notches. Sega didn't bother to spice up the menus or think to include some of the console's old advertising. Heck, it didn't even provide dubbing for any of the developer interviews. It literally looks like someone walked into the Sega of Japan office, set up a camera and had everyone take turns speaking. For a machine this grand, such treatment is unforgivable.
All things considered, this is still a pretty sweet package. It may not have Activision Anthology's flashy wrapper, but Sega Genesis Collection is fun personified. It's also a great way to learn some gaming history in between playing today's much flashier games, most of which are still not as good as Sonic the Hedgehog 2.
