Gov. Schwarzenegger to Ignore Violent Game Bill? (PS2)

Bill expected to pass on Governator's apathy

by James Brightman on Thursday, October 06, 2005

Time is running out. The deadline for Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to sign or veto the pending violent video games bill is October 9th, which technically means midnight on Saturday, Oct. 8th.

According to GamePolitics.com, which cites a "very knowledgeable source in California politics," Schwarzenegger is expected to do nothing about the pending legislation. If that happens, the bill automatically becomes law next year. This would of course spark another lawsuit by the ESA, but it also could have an effect on the industry's future seeing as how it's the most populous U.S. state and the home of the majority of the industry and many entertainment lobbyists.

"It's a significant spot for this type of battle to be taking place," Jason Della Rocca, executive director for the International Game Developers Association, told USA Today. He continued, "[The governor] is between a rock and a hard place, given his ties to the entertainment industry."
