It might seem like the first-person combat doesn't get going until late in the game, a sort of last push after a bunch of slow base construction. However, action fans will find plenty to do since combat can take place at any point in the game. First off, the land will be large and diverse, holding treasures and resources as well as beasts and enemy units. Scouting the world around the base will be essential. Those beasts should be taken out, as the computer-controlled monsters can cause havoc. In addition, combat can take place at any point in the game.
The war between these two sides, aptly named the Legion of Man and the Beast Horde, will involve both sides using all of their various units. These units include pure combatants, healers, support units, siege units and builders. Each has a unique role to play in the game, and none of them share abilities, so there will be plenty of replay and strategic options.
Finally, Savage 2 will feature a ladder-like statistical tracking system, which will monitor kills and deaths, in experience points and many other factors to rank all players. Players get ranked with a "level" (a marker of how well they play), and they can only play games at their own level range unless they want to be handicapped.
S2 Games received many awards for the original Savage, and with just about everything expanded and improved, Savage 2: Tortured Soul could garner even more. The release date has not announced, but expect the servers to be packed as soon as it hits.
