Like the previous game, you control the legendary Rygar as he sets out to rescue a damsel in distress. Further complications arise throughout the story, although some changes are made to suit the character's "hip" redesign. Instead of giving off the appearance of a Roman soldier (as he did in Legendary Adventure), he has a more sophisticated, youth-laden look. Sporting a head of spiked white hair, a goatee and tattoos, he resembles more of a punk-like hero rather than the character many grew familiar with back on the NES twenty years ago.
However, his play technique is about the same, as he still utilizes the Diskarmor. This one-of-a-kind weapon works efficiently in terms of both offense and defense. Utilize it as a shield to brace for incoming attacks while swinging it around via an attached chain, striking enemies up close and at a slight distance. Throughout the game, multiple types of Diskarmor get obtainable, which in turn enhance Rygar's abilities and prowess. The grapple one in particular should play a huge part in the game, as you won't be able to reach certain areas without it.
The controls were changed for the Wii version of the game. Rather than randomly tapping buttons to launch the Diskarmor into action, you perform certain motions with the Wii remote and Nunchuk. Although Tecmo hasn't quite broken down how this control technique will operate in the final version, it wouldn't be a surprise to see it work with both vertical and horizontal attacks, coordinated with real hand movements. Watching Rygar send the Diskarmor striking down into the chest of a fallen enemy would definitely feel sweeter with an axe-like motion, instead of the simple button press.
