During a fourth quarter earnings conference call, Viacom revealed that Rock Band 2 has sold nearly 2 million units worldwide. However, they noted that this was slightly below the company's projections. The Rock Band series as a whole has shipped 10 million copies worldwide.

Despite lower than expected sales for the holiday quarter, Viacom noted that the Rock Band series has helped the Media Networks division increase full-year revenues by eight percent to $8.76 billion. The quarter ended December 31 contributed $2.48 billion to the total and was roughly flat year-on-year. The rest of Viacom's business had little good to report, with earnings down 69 percent from weak advertising sales on various cable channels and declining movie revenues.
