We're huge Resident Evil fans, so wandering through the mansion one more time piqued our interests, and for the most part, The Umbrella Chronicles satisfies our urge to give those monsters the business. Throughout the course of the 15-20 hour adventure, you'll explore an abandoned train as Rebecca Chambers and her counterpart Billy Coen, wander through the Raccoon City streets as "master of unlocking" Jill Valentine and do battle as the cocky Chris Redfield (among other characters), all the while enjoying famous battles, such as Resident Evil 0's fight against a giant scorpion. And in between boss fights creeps scores of enemies, including the series staple zombies, bats, leeches and other abominations.
Overall, we had fun killing monsters, locating hidden items and finding new weapons like the automatic rifle and shotgun. You can even access the knife by pressing and holding A, then shaking the remote, but the game's not without some annoying issues, namely the aforementioned weak spots that defy zombie lore. Logic (as taught to us by Dawn of the Dead) denotes that blasting a zombie in its rotting cranium kills it instantly, and while this works in Umbrella Chronicles, it's only a partial truth. You can't just blast any part of a zombie's head, you need to hit the one specific point that for whatever reason is very small, so you'll basically shoot a zombie, only to watch it shamble backwards a few steps and then launch itself towards you. Capcom gives you a helpful visual cue in that the cursor blinks whenever it wanders over said weak spot, but whoever thought this up enjoys torturing people, since all you'll do is unload clip after clip in the hopes of scoring successful hits.
