Cheap bosses don't help matters. Some of the fights drag on, and before you know it, the creature unleashes some impossible to block attack and you're left staring at the continue screen. At least a friend can jump into the action and fight alongside you. Having that extra gun keeps stress levels low.
Furthermore, what's up with the exclusion of Resident Evil 2? We can see why Capcom didn't include the fourth game, since it has nothing to do with Umbrella, but the sequel was too important to get ditched, especially in favor of the much weaker Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. Even Code Veronica's omission has us puzzled. For a game that chronicles the RE legacy, the developers skipped important events.
Umbrella Chronicles' graphics aren't impressive. Monsters sport ugly jagged edges, and the darker colors look less than attractive, especially on an HDTV, but it's not like the game's disgusting. Capcom did a good job tapping into the Wii's processing muscle, and the result is a bunch of creepy environments, and then you have the well-animated monsters. And with the audio, we enjoyed listening to music from the series, as well as the reloading sounds coming from the remote's speakers.
Various issues keep Umbrella Chronicles from being one of the Wii's premier games, but we still have a place for it in our libraries. While flawed, it provides several hours of zombie slaughtering fun, and being able to re-experience old scenes as well as use our remotes as guns kept us up late searching for bonus items and killing pesky bosses. Besides, every Resident Evil fan deserves to know why the Umbrella Corporation collapsed.
