Capcom announced today that its Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles, a light-gun style combat game that makes use of the Wii Zapper, has shipped over one million units worldwide since its debut last November.
Capcom said that this marks the second Wii title from the publisher to reach the one million shipped milestone – coincidentally, it was another Resident Evil game that achieved the number previously: Resident Evil 4 Wii Edition.
Overall, the Resident Evil series, which dates back to 1996, has sold more than 34.5 million units globally (as of February 29, 2008). Capcom plans to continue leveraging the popular brand not only through games, but also with movies. Last fall, Resident Evil Extinction hit theaters worldwide and generated $147 million in revenues. Capcom said it's currently in the middle of producing a full-length CG movie, Resident Evil: Degeneration, in cooperation with Sony Pictures Entertainment Japan.
