Capcom has announced today the North American release of Resident Evil Outbreak exclusively for the PlayStation 2. The game, which requires a PlayStation 2 online adapter, is the first to take the beloved franchise online. Resident Evil Outbreak carries an MSRP of $49.99 and is rated "M" for mature.

In Resident Evil Outbreak, players return to Raccoon City where they will need to team up with other inhabitants of the city to survive the savage attacks of the undead while working together to share such items as health and ammunition.

Capcom is celebrating the long awaited release of the title with a series of events to take place in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York. These "events" will be taking place from April 1-3 and are basically simultaneous stunts where Resident Evil zombies will roam high traffic epicenters in these three major markets (I'm sure most people won't even notice in N.Y.!). Additionally, those of you in San Francisco are invited to attend Capcom's launch event for the title at the Metreon PlayStation store on April 2. The venue will be themed in the spirit of Raccoon City and attendees will be able to play demos of the game as well as enter raffle contests to win a variety of Resident Evil related prizes.
