Ubisoft announced today that Red Steel 2 is in development for Wii. The original Red Steel sold over a million copies as the only original IP created specifically for the Wii launch. Red Steel 2 will take place "in a desert-bound, high-tech metropolis," with completely revamped sword combat thanks to the Wii MotionPlus accessory.

"Red Steel was a unique opportunity for Ubisoft to work in tandem with Nintendo to create a title exclusively for the launch of the Wii console," said Tony Key, senior vice president of sales and marketing U.S. at Ubisoft. "Red Steel 2 is another milestone for the company as it is the first Ubisoft title with full Wii MotionPlus integration."

Red Steel 2 will release on the Wii in during late 2009.
