Racing fans will welcome the long-awaited Project Gotham Racing 4, (PGR4) the next installment to the series that illustrates how skill isn't found in how fast one drives, but how well one drives fast. Blending an arcade style of gameplay with a passable amount of realism, along with a rocking multinational soundtrack and locales has proven that PGR4 is a must play.

This fourth installment features motorcycles. Up to one quarter of the game's vehicles will be dedicated to different motorcycle models from manufacturers like Honda and a host of others. Players will get a chance to pop wheelies while racing down long stretches of roads against cars. Acceleration and handling will differ greatly between the two types of vehicles.

Of the ten global locations players will tour, five were carried over from previous games, including New York City, Las Vegas, Tokyo and London. Of the five new maps, fans might recognize Saint Petersburg as a returning map from PGR2. Yet, these locations won't be without changes. In addition to deciding between the two or four-wheel approach, players will also deal with different types of weather. Racers will have to deal with rain, snow and fog that will significantly change how the vehicles handle. In the case of motorcycles, that could make an intense situation even crazier, especially when there are cars sliding sideways across sheets of ice. The weather system will act dynamically, meaning that fog can later give way to rain, leaving behind slippery puddles.

PGR4 includes a host of customization options, including a team-livery option that works both off and online, so teams of players can show off a unified look. When players do well in their single player careers, the audience will cheer and show their support by wearing that team's colors. Similarly, the Kudos system has been modified to support team play. These stunts include letting a teammate draft off you, or blocking others from taking out the team's fast motorcycles.

Online racing supports up to eight vehicles and features the fast intensity the series became famous for. The addition of motorcycles and weather effects should be just enough to add a new dimension of gameplay to a familiar formula. Look for PGR4 to hit store shelves October 2.
