The GameDaily One-Minute Review

Professor Layton and the Curious Village is Nintendo's latest attempt to give your brain a work out. This semi-charming DS adventure has you, as the super intelligent Layton and his "oh golly gee" sidekick, exploring a mysterious town in search of treasure, except instead of hacking enemies with a sword, you interact with the residents and solve 130 puzzles, most of which require a keen eye and superb deduction. Therein lies the game's charm, as you obsess over the latest brainteaser. It's the desire to solve the next challenge, and not the ho-hum story, that makes Professor Layton interesting. That, and Nintendo's commitment to release new puzzles on a weekly basis, is available via its Wi-Fi Connection service. We just wish its narrative and characters were more exciting.
