Prince of Persia Review (PS3)

The latest Prince of Persia is more about the journey than the destination, but what an awesome journey it is.

In Prince of Persia, you control a mysterious stranger (a Prince, but not the Prince from previous games) who partners with a magical babe named Elika, to stop a demon on the loose. The Prince and his sidekick traverse through levels, running across walls and swinging on strategically-placed poles in tandem, pausing to fight tough enemies using a clever combination of the Prince's sword and Elika's special skills, which include levitating and striking enemies with magic.

The game's cel-shaded art style that initially sent long-time fans of the series screaming works nicely – it adds a certain mystical quality to the entire game, from the characters to the detailed vistas that make up the game's wide-open environments. The game's expertly composed soundtrack provides atmosphere for the storyline, which plays out through lavish cutscenes and cheeky (sometimes verging on corny) banter between the prince and his lady friend.

Too bad this adventure seems to end as soon as it starts, and doesn't have much replayability outside of unlocking bonus costumes and collecting glowing orbs that upgrade Elika's magic powers. These are minor quibbles at best, though -- we still found ourselves savoring every moment.
