According to the folks at ComingSoon.net, Disney's upcoming film based on the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time game from Ubisoft is going to need some extra time in production. The Jerry Bruckheimer-produced movie had been scheduled for June 19, 2009, but now it's slated for May 28, 2010.
As the report points out, a May 28 release would give Disney a chance to rake in more money at the box office during a four-day Memorial Day weekend. It also sandwiches the film a week in between Shrek Goes Fourth and Marvel's Thor.
The Prince of Persia movie is being directed by Mike Newell and stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Gemma Arterton, Alfred Molina and Ben Kingsley.
Not only is Ubisoft working on a new Prince of Persia game (slated for this holiday season) with a new cel-shaded visual style, but the publisher said it may create another game to coincide with the movie as well. That would appear to be a long way off now, however.
