A female cosplayer named Emily Keith is working on a creating a new costume called "Aperture Science Test Subject," based on the popular game Portal. To add a touch of realism to the effort, she asked her boyfriend, Harrison Krix, to create an ASHPD or Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device (aka Portal Gun). The result is a true work of art, complete with a blue LED-lit barrel.

Unfortunately, the technology that makes the device work in Valve's game has not been developed (we assume that will happen once the Large Hadron Collider resumes work). In the meanwhile, we can't wait to see what the rest of the costume will look like.

Update: Atlanta-based Krix told GameDaily that he's studied Graphic and Furniture Design at Savannah College of Art and Design and before his time in college, he worked as an auto body technician, "so I know my way around bondo and paint pretty well."

A fan of Portal, he knew from the first moment that he played the game, he wanted to recreated the ASHPD. After attending a cosplay event at Dragon*Con as a character from the Legend of Zelda series (with Emily, of course), Krix got hooked on dressing up as his favorite game characters. After he decided to create the ASHPD, Emily decided to craft a Aperture Science jumpsuit since, "I can't sew to save my life."

"The fact that there's such a broad audience that appreciates my work is a remarkable and humbling realization - the amount of requests I've gotten so far is overwhelming," writes Krix. "Right now I'm booked making props until nearly the end of 2009."

What's next? A Big Daddy costume from BioShock that he intends to showoff at this year's Dragon*Con.
